Grandparents, like heroes, are as necessary to a child’s growth as vitamins. – Joyce Allston
During our month long celebration of Music in Our Schools Month, all of the band students at the North and West Intermediate Schools had the opportunity to invite their grandparents to attend one of their weekly band lessons.
The response was overwhelming!! We had more than 70 grandparents come to our lessons. Some drove from far away to be there, like Southern Connecticut and others were Wilmington residents who came from nearby.
We learned that many of our visiting grandparents originally came to this area from other countries, like Ireland, Italy, Poland, India, Greece, and Portugal, and that many of them speak another language in addition to English. We also learned that there are many, many different names for our grandmothers and grandfathers.
The best part of the day was having the opportunity to share our classroom and what we are learning about playing an instrument with them!
Thank you to all of the Grandparents who came to visit!!
