Happy Memorial Day!
THANK YOU for marching with the Wilmington Elementary Band as our town celebrates this important holiday honoring our veterans and heroes! Congratulations to you on your spectacular efforts! Remember that by participating in this parade you are proudly representing yourself as an outstanding American citizen, as well as your family, school, community, and country!
A few reminders about Monday’s Parade:
MEET in front of the Lowell 5 Cent Savings Bank (on the sidewalk) at Wilmington Plaza at 9:30 AM.
WEAR your white Wilmington Elementary Band t-shirt, dark shorts or pants, and sneakers. You may wear sunglasses, and sunscreen is a good idea. You may NOT wear caps/hats.
BRING your instrument, music, and lyre. Leave your instrument case at home or in the car. (Drummers DO NOT bring their instruments. 5th grade Advanced Drummers need only their sticks.
All other drummers will receive their equipment at the parade.)
CHECK ahead of time to be sure that you have reeds, neck straps, lyres, valve oil, etc. All music should be in folios or securely taped to a sturdy piece of cardboard.
EAT a good breakfast and make a “pit-stop” in the bathroom BEFORE you come to the parade…
there are no bathrooms along the parade route. We will supply you with water during the parade.
CELEBRATE your excellent performance with your parents at the 4th of July building around 11:30 where they will pick you up. Parade participants will be treated to free hot-dogs and drinks there.
ASK your mom or dad if they would like to march with us and carry the very important water bottles (you do not need to bring water bottles, we supply everything). They can email me to volunteer: adilullo@wpsk12.com
READ THIS: A word about the weather ………..
If it is a cold/chilly day, consider wearing pants/jeans and a sweatshirt under your band shirt.
IF IT RAINS…..
While we wholeheartedly support the importance of this holiday and the remembrance of our veterans and heroes in America, we will NOT march in the rain because it damages the musical instruments. The high school band does march in the rain because those students have been taught how to take care of water damaged instruments, ·but the elementary band students have not.
By RAIN we mean………
If it is steadily raining hard enough to necessitate the use of an umbrella or windshield wipers in a car, than we will NOT march. However………The parade must go on and we WILL march if it is:
Cloudy, cold, chilly, windy, misty, foggy, “Spitting/sprinkling”,threatening to rain, or if it rained earlier in the morning or the night before.
Once again, THANK YOU to you and your family for participating in this important holiday
celebration!!
