March is nationally known as “Music In Our Schools Month” (MIOSM) to celebrate and promote music education classes in schools all across the country. Here in Wilmington, we are extremely fortunate to be able to offer a wide array of music classes at every level, including general music, chorus, strings, and band. The 5th Grade Advanced Strings and Band students presented a MIOSM concert to the entire school on Friday, March 9. It was the students’ idea to share what they have been learning in lessons and rehearsals with their classmates and teachers. The concert opened with the Advanced Band performing Miles Ahead by Jay Taylor. The Advanced Strings performed Clog Dance by Eliot del Borgo. For the grand finale both ensembles united to play a catchy tune, Twinkle, Twinkle, Rockin’ Star. However, some of the greatest highlights of this concert were the tremendous number of students who volunteered to perform solos between the ensemble selections.
